Why was I charged twice?

If you see two Goodcover charges close together, one may be an advance renewal payment or the collection of a past-due amount. Learn why this can happen and when your regular billing schedule should resume.

If you pay monthly, you will normally be charged around the same date each month. The exact date may vary slightly because of bank and payment-processing schedules.

In some circumstances, you may see more than one Goodcover charge in the same month. Two common reasons are an advance renewal payment and the collection of a past-due amount.

Advance renewal payment

When your policy is approaching renewal, Goodcover may charge your account before the renewal date. Collecting the payment in advance helps fund the new policy term and prevent a lapse in coverage between the old and new terms.

This can look like your usual monthly payment followed by another payment for the new term, sometimes only a day apart. The renewal payment may also include a policy fee when one applies.

If the first month's premium for the new term—or the annual premium, if you pay annually—has already been collected, you generally will not be charged for that same payment again on your regular due date. Monthly billing should resume on its normal schedule the following month.

Collection of a past-due payment

If a previous payment was missed, Goodcover may attempt to collect the past-due amount at regular intervals. The successful payment may appear on a date other than your usual billing date.

A payment can be missed because of card or bank processing issues, so the later charge may be the first indication that the earlier payment did not go through.

Review the charges

Check the dates and amounts in your billing history. One charge may correspond to your current policy term while the other funds an upcoming renewal or covers a past-due balance.

Frequently asked questions

Why did I receive two Goodcover charges close together?

One charge may be your regular payment and the other may be an advance payment for an upcoming renewal. Another possibility is that Goodcover collected a previously missed or past-due payment.

Will I be charged again on my normal due date after an advance renewal payment?

If the first payment for your new policy term has already been collected in advance, you generally will not be charged again on the usual due date for that payment. Monthly payments should resume on the normal schedule the following month.

Can a renewal charge include a policy fee?

Yes. An advance renewal charge may include a policy fee when one applies to your policy. Policy fees vary by state and policy terms.

Why was a past-due payment collected on an unexpected date?

Goodcover may attempt to collect a past-due amount at regular intervals. A successful payment can therefore appear on a date other than your normal monthly billing date.
