How to Be Listed as an Interested Party on a Tenant's Goodcover Policy
Learn how landlords and property managers can request to be listed as an interested party on a tenant's Goodcover renters insurance policy — and what it means for your protection.
What is an interested party?
An interested party (sometimes called an additional interested or AI) is a person or organization listed on a renters insurance policy who has a financial or legal interest in the covered property. Being listed does not give you any rights to the policy proceeds — it simply means you will be notified if the policy is cancelled, lapses, or changes materially.
For landlords and property managers, this is a standard protection: you know immediately if a tenant's coverage lapses so you can follow up before there is a gap.
Why request interested party status?
- Lease compliance — Many lease agreements require tenants to carry renters insurance and list the landlord or property management company as an interested party.
- Early warning — You're notified of any policy cancellation or lapse, giving you time to address coverage gaps before they become a liability issue.
- No cost, no obligation — There is no fee to be listed, and it does not make you responsible for the tenant's premium.
What you'll need
To be listed as an interested party you need to provide:
- The tenant's full name — as it appears on their Goodcover policy.
- Your mailing address — the name and address you want printed on the policy (e.g. the property management company name, PO box, or street address).
How to submit the request to a tenant
- Email your tenant and ask them to add you directly.
- In the body, include:
- The address or email address you want listed as the interested party
- Send the email and wait.
How to submit that request to Goodcover for execution
- Email the tenant and copy Goodcover with the request you'd like to make
- Tenant must reply to proceed from the account on file.
- Goodcover executes the additional interest and you get confirmation.
What happens next?
Once the request is processed:
- The interested party address is added to the tenant's policy.
- You will receive written confirmation from Goodcover.
- Going forward, you will be notified automatically if the policy is cancelled or lapses.
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions
Does being listed as an interested party give me access to the tenant's claim?
No. Interested party status is notification-only. It does not entitle you to any claim proceeds or policy benefits — those remain solely with the policyholder (your tenant).
Can I request to be added without the tenant's involvement?
Yes. You can email Goodcover support directly with the tenant's name and your address. You do not need the tenant to initiate the request.
How long does it take to be added?
Goodcover's support team typically processes interested party requests within one business day. You'll receive a confirmation email once the change is reflected on the policy.
Can I be listed on multiple tenant policies?
Yes. If you manage multiple units, you can submit a separate request for each tenant's policy. Include the tenant's name and your address in each request.
What if my tenant does not have a Goodcover policy yet?
You can share the Goodcover sign-up link with your tenant and ask them to add you as an interested party during the quote process, or contact support once they have purchased a policy.
